My Vision for Aurora

Jun 18, 2010
We face challenging times ahead. Our community is changing.

Our reputation across the region and GTA has become tarnished.

We have seen volunteer groups openly fighting, rather than focusing on working together for the betterment of our community.

The integrity of our local politicians has been challenged and our Council has become involved in legal battles with each other, displaced staff and community stakeholders.

Our ability to manage growth is being lost to the Ontario Municipal Board (OMB). Council is fighting developers who are simply trying to follow the legislated process and the Official Plan.

Residents and businesses are being asked to bear the weight of increased taxes. Our taxes increase, yet our service levels have not kept pace because of  the development of new high density neighbourhoods.

To ensure Aurora’s interests are protected we must take a proactive leadership role in identifying workable, made in Aurora, solutions.

Your Council must demonstrate leadership by advocating a public consultation process that actively solicits input and then works with differing points of view to develop a clear community based vision for our future, so the financial, physical, environmental and cultural well-being of our community is not jeopardized by others who do not share Aurora's vision.

Your Council must be Aurora’s champion and must promote our vision to the Region, the Province and the business community with a strong persuasive voice, so that our community vision becomes their vision for our community. Otherwise, those outside Aurora will make the decisions that will affect our community -- forever.

There is no such thing as status quo. Old ideas and old solutions no longer fit. We need fresh new innovative ideas and solutions.

These issues require strong leadership as we move forward -- not the type of egotistical leadership that has been demonstrated by the current Mayor and Council -- where self promotion takes priority over progress.

I have the proven experience to deliver that leadership. I have chosen to stand for election because my family and business commitments now allow me to make a deeper contribution to a community that has already given me so much. I want to help ensure that the essential qualities of community remain a part of Aurora for future generations.
