My Commitments

Earning a position of leadership is about integrity -- establishing and committing to a clear set of principles against which people can hold you accountable. I welcome that accountability.

I commit to:
  1. Making informed decisions by giving issues my full personal consideration. I will do my homework, consult with staff and all stakeholders, respectfully debate with my council colleagues and then vote to the best of my ability of my own free will.

     

  2. Thoroughly reviewing issues, seeking alternative solutions to develop the best possible decisions for the people of Aurora.

     

  3. Insisting that staff come forward with recommendations based on their areas of expertise, without pressure from special interests or fear of recriminations.

     

  4. Returning the culture of collaboration to Aurora. I will challenge staff professionally and never criticize staff publicly or threaten them at any time.

     

  5. Never support the expenditure of public funds on legal challenges that are personally or politically motivated. I will only support legal fees spent to defend the interests of the Town, not individuals.

     

  6. Working with other members of council -- whether we agree or not -- on addressing the unresolved backlog of issues that are critically important to the progress of our municipality.

     

  7. Working towards collaborative decision-making, rather than delaying decisions by continually referring matters back to staff for unnecessary reports.

     

  8. Demonstrating the respect expected by each member who chooses to stand for election and living by the requirements and ideals of my Oath of Office and the requirements under the Municipal Act. I believe that ethics and a personal code of behaviour are principles we each chose to live by -- not a set of rules.

     

  9. The courage to make tough decisions that meet the broader needs of the community, and the ability to get things done.

     

  10. Re-energizing our Community through Leadership and Accountability.
I commit to you, and the community, that I'll abide by these commitments and work to help shape our future in a positive, collaborative and constructive way.
