T. S. Elliot. Community is about the experience of belonging. When you have a feeling of belonging to something, you have a tendency to nurture and grow it. So, to truly belong to a community is to develop both a sense of ownership and accountability.
To do this, we need to develop a common sense of purpose -- appealing to the higher ideal of what is good for the whole, not just what is good for me. It has long been recognized that engaged communities simply work better.
Many of the residents of Aurora share this vision of community. They recognize that we are all owner-operators of the “business” that is Aurora!
There are exciting prospects in store for us in Aurora -- as together we develop a shared vision for our community based on respect and collaboration.
MY COMMUNITY COMMITMENTS
Community Input Council decisions must be made with input from all community interests -- unlike the Parks and Recreation Master Plan which was re-written by a small group of individuals with no accountability to the citizens. I commit that consultant reports will be presented to Council, in their original form, so that Council may make the decisions they were duly elected to make based on complete unfiltered information.
Committee Membership This term, a small group populates a disproportionate share of committees. The Town is not leveraging the diverse population to get the broadest input. I commit to encouraging diverse participation and will not support the selection of any of my key campaign team to any Town committee.
